Why should my zero credit score hinder me from acquiring a loan?

In 2004 I had to medically retire from a 40-50K job. My standard of living was drastically changed overnight and I had to manage a meager lifestyle with less dependent primarily on Social Security. In five years I've managed to buy a very modest home and that's it.

- I'm the type that has sort of wanted to do something shady but because I already stick out in a crowd because of physical characteristics I instinctively know better.
